I've been building software for thirty years — twenty of them in formal leadership, including leading managers of managers.

I started in Brazil, writing games and developer tools before the web existed. The work that shaped me came early: architecture for a banking suite serving 400,000+ clients, where a mistake wasn't a bug ticket but a headline; systems for public-health and research institutions, where the data described real patients; and the Kepler Project — government-funded open-source research on the Lua programming language, including the LuaEclipse IDE — where the users were other developers with no patience for friction. Those years fixed a conviction I've never let go of: compliance, performance, and security aren't features you add — they're what good engineering produces when someone insists on it.

In 2018 I moved to Toronto and joined Rangle.io, where I became Principal Technical Director. I led design-system and transformation programs in regulated, high-stakes domains — internet banking, healthcare software classified as a medical device (SaMD) — including Radius, an open design-system accelerator, and R2, a digital-transformation accelerator. I was one of the original architects of the company's Digital Operating Model, and when COVID scattered the teams, my job quietly became keeping the culture alive — showing up with energy across engagements until it caught. I ran organizations of up to fifty-five people through a layer of people managers. The lesson of that scale: one team's standards, tooling, and judgment can multiply the velocity of many teams, or quietly cap it. Leading through systems beats leading through heroics.

Today my work sits where those two threads cross. AI has made building software dramatically faster — and made it dramatically easier to ship something that only looks finished. I lead teams through that gap: owning the AI-enabled delivery roadmap — agentic tooling, guardrails, enablement — defining what production-ready actually means, and making the org-level risk calls about what a team should and shouldn't own. I run my own fleet of AI agents daily, so the rigor comes from fluency, not fear.

I've spoken about this work at React Summit (Complex Tech Stack Migration: SurveyMonkey) and Web Unleashed (Building Change Into Your Design System), and at Toronto universities and industry events.

I studied philosophy before software took over — it still shows. I live in Toronto with my family.
